A breach exposed 180,000 personal data records of Sogang University students, alumni and faculty and staff.
On the 15th, Sogang University said, "We confirmed on the 14th signs that some information had been leaked due to an unidentified external attack on integrated login account information."
Sogang University posted a notice on its official website saying, "We confirmed signs of a partial information leak due to an unidentified external attack," and "After learning of the incident, we took emergency measures in accordance with security breach response procedures."
The personal data leaked in this incident reportedly includes student (employee) ID numbers, names, affiliations, email addresses, mobile phone numbers and encrypted integrated passwords.
Sogang University said that immediately after learning of the incident, it blocked the attacking IP, then restricted service access and implemented network separation measures. Additional security steps to prevent further damage are ongoing.
Sogang University said, "We are taking this matter very seriously and will fundamentally review and strengthen our systems to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future."
