On Aug. 15, Liberation Day, large rallies will be held across downtown Seoul.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on Aug. 14, the Liberty Unification Party will hold a large rally from 1 p.m. on Aug. 15 in the Sejong-daero area in front of the Dongwha Duty Free Shop, then march from 4 p.m. to the Singyo Intersection. During the march, traffic in both directions will be restricted from the Seoulcheong Intersection to the Salvation Army Intersection.
Progressive groups will also hold a rally from 1:30 p.m. the same day in the areas around Yulgok-ro and Sajik-ro in Jongno District. Afterward, at about 2:30 p.m., they will depart Anguk Intersection and march through Jonggak Intersection and Euljiro 1-ga Entrance Intersection in Jung District to Seoul Plaza. During the march, vehicles heading from Euljiro 1-ga Entrance Intersection toward City Hall Intersection will be restricted.
Rallies by several conservative groups, including the Liberty University National Defense Corps, are also scheduled around Olympic Park in Songpa District.
Traffic in surrounding areas is expected to be congested due to the rallies and marches. Police plan to deploy about 200 traffic officers to manage traffic, guide detours, and maintain order.
