Police have launched a compulsory investigation after a man in his 30s died, trapped between equipment and a structure at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Gunsan Shipyard.
The North Jeolla Provincial Police Agency's wide-area crime investigation unit has been searching and seizing the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Gunsan Shipyard in Bieungdo-dong, Gunsan, North Jeolla, and the office of the subcontractor to which the deceased worker belonged since the morning of the 14th.
The search and seizure is related to a crushing accident that occurred at the shipyard at about 4:44 p.m. on the 24th of last month. At the time, the head of A, a person in their 30s who was operating a lug fastener, equipment for assembling and transporting structures, was caught between the structure and the fastener.
A suffered a severe head injury and was transported in cardiac arrest to Gunsan Medical Center for treatment, but died the same day. Police believe A had the accident while reversing a lug fastener with an open-top structure.
Through the search and seizure, police plan to secure materials related to work and safety management and then check whether those responsible for safety management at the time properly carried out necessary safety measures. They are also expected to review the application of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act along with a charge of occupational negligence causing death.
A police official said, "We have been conducting the search and seizure since this morning," and added, "It is difficult to disclose specific details."
