Hwawoo LLC (representative attorney Lee Myung-su) said on the 14th that it hired attorney Lee Ki-sung (4th bar exam) as a partner. Lee has handled subcontracting cases at the Korea Fair Trade Commission and at law firms.
Lee graduated from the department of law at Hanyang University and the same university's law school, earning a law license in 2015. After serving as a public-service legal officer at the Ministry of Justice, Lee handled investigations and dispositions at the Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) into whether construction companies violated the Fair Transactions in Subcontracting Act.
After moving to the private sector in 2021, Lee represented numerous subcontracting cases for major construction companies at a domestic law firm. Lee also handled antitrust matters such as unfair support among affiliates, collusion, and unfair trade practices, as well as work related to the E-Commerce Act, the Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising, and the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions.
Hwawoo said Lee's strength lies in practical experience on both the regulatory and private sides, from responding to Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) investigations and deliberations to advance compliance and administrative litigation challenging dispositions.
According to Hwawoo, Lee has been selected as a "Recommended Lawyer" for four consecutive years since 2023 in the antitrust field by the global legal evaluator The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. Lee was also listed as an antitrust attorney in the 2024 "Korea Law Firm Consumer Report."
Hwawoo's antitrust group includes about 50 professionals. Recently, it handled the criminal case over price-fixing in Hyundai Steel's steel scrap purchases and lawsuits to cancel dispositions against E-Land Group's E-Land World and E-Land Retail for unfair support and tunneling. It runs a specialized compliance program for competition law (CP) and is expanding regulatory advisory services related to online platforms and artificial intelligence (AI).
