Prosecutors sought a heavy sentence for a landlord who carried out a jeonse fraud worth 11 billion won in a university district in Dongdaemun District, Seoul.
On the 13th, at the sentencing hearing for A, in their 50s, on charges including forgery of private documents before the Criminal Agreement Division 13 of the Seoul Northern District Court (Presiding Judge Na Sang-hun), prosecutors sought 15 years in prison for A.
For B, A's older sister, who was indicted on charges including fraud, prosecutors asked the court to sentence her to five years in prison.
A owns multiple properties around Dongdaemun District and is accused of embezzling deposits totaling 11 billion won by not returning them even after lease contracts ended.
Most of the victimized tenants are students at nearby universities, reportedly numbering more than 100. B is said to have abetted A's crimes.
The court concluded arguments in May, but resumed them that day after prosecutors filed additional evidence and a motion to amend the indictment.
However, A's side has reportedly continued to deny the charges even under the amended indictment.
Sentencing for the two is set for 10 a.m. on the 27th.
