Rep. Han Dong-hoon did not appear for questioning by the second comprehensive special counsel team (Special Counsel Kwon Chang-young) regarding the People Power Party–government–presidential office meeting held immediately after the lifting of the Dec. 3 martial law.
The second special counsel team said Rep. Han failed to appear for a witness interview scheduled for 10 a.m. on the 12th. Rep. Han also did not submit a written statement explaining his absence. The special counsel team said, "Given that little time remains in the investigation period, we are not considering summoning Rep. Han again."
The special counsel believes that on the day martial law was lifted, at the party–government–presidential office meeting and at a gathering at a safe house, senior officials from the government, the ruling party, and the presidential office conspired to craft arguments justifying the Dec. 3 martial law.
At the time, the party–government–presidential office meeting was held at 2 p.m. at the prime minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. From the People Power Party, attendees included then-party leader Rep. Han, former floor leader Choo Kyung-ho, and Reps. Na Kyung-won and Kim Ki-hyun. The safe-house gathering was held at 7 p.m. the same day.
In a Facebook post on the 6th, Rep. Han said, "The Lee Jae-myung administration's political special counsel did a media play. I have not received any notice summoning me as a witness," and added, "They imposed an exit ban during the election period for no reason and arbitrarily extended it for months without being able to summon me even once, and now they are engaging in showy media play. I have no intention of helping the political investigation by the political special counsel."
