The homeless rights group "Homeless Action" said on the 12th that "homelessness at Incheon Airport is not an individual deviation but the result of the state and local governments neglecting their responsibilities," and demanded, "Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) must immediately halt eviction measures."
Homeless Action held a press conference that morning at the entrance to the arrivals hall of Incheon Airport's Terminal 2, saying, "Pushing homeless people to other places through evictions and crackdowns only shifts the problem elsewhere," and added, "Even temporarily, the necessary protection should be provided, and authorities must cooperate so that people can be connected through consolidation to community support systems."
It continued, "Incheon City is leaving a gap in the street homeless support system," and argued, "Instead of the customary practice of encouraging people to enter facilities, authorities must prepare policies that homeless people can access, such as supportive housing and temporary housing assistance, and establish an emergency response plan."
According to Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC), 16 homeless people are currently residing at the airport. Complaints have also been filed regarding homeless people about odor, occupying seats, abusive language and shouting, and drinking.
Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) said it "will ask the homeless to leave voluntarily and support their self-reliance," adding, "We are providing temporary housing and jobs in connection with the self-reliance agency 'House Opening Tomorrow' and guiding basic livelihood guarantee and other services in connection with local governments," and said, "We will fulfill the public institution's social responsibility by working with local governments and self-reliance agencies so homeless people can become self-reliant."
Earlier, on the 30th, Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) attached eviction notices to the belongings of homeless people residing at Incheon Airport.
The eviction notice demanded an immediate end to sleeping in the passenger terminal and ordered people to leave the premises, stating that "if you do not comply with the eviction request, you may be subject to a fine, detention, or a minor fine under the Airport Facilities Act and face criminal penalties."
