A victim of an arson attack at an apartment management office in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, died while receiving treatment. It was 19 days after the incident. This brings the death toll from the case to four.
Police and others said on the 11th that a woman in her 50s, identified as A, died that morning while being treated at a burn specialty hospital in Daegu.
A had been receiving hospital treatment after suffering burns in an arson attack on the 23rd at an apartment management office in Sadong, Gyeongsan.
At the time, a resident surnamed Ryu, in his 70s, poured a flammable substance at the management office and set it on fire. The blaze left eight people, including Ryu, with serious to moderate injuries such as full-body burns.
Earlier, a woman in her 50s died on the 24th, followed by two women in their 50s on the 31st. With A's death on the 11th, the number of fatalities rose to four.
Suspect Ryu also suffered full-body burns and is receiving treatment. Ryu is conscious but reportedly not well enough to undergo a police interview.
Police plan to conduct an in-person interview as soon as Ryu's condition improves to determine the motive and circumstances of the crime.
