Former North Chungcheong Gov. Kim Young-hwan, who faces allegations including receiving cash envelopes, has been sent to prosecutors.
According to police and others on the 11th, the anti-corruption and economic crimes unit of the North Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency referred the former governor without detention on charges including violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act and accepting bribes.
The former governor is suspected of receiving cash envelopes totaling 11 million won from figures in the sports community as travel expenses ahead of business trips to Japan and the United States last year.
He is also suspected of making Volleyball Association President Yoon Doo-young cover the 20 million won interior expense for his mountain cabin in Goesan in 2024 and allowing participation in North Chungcheong Province's smart farm pilot project.
Police also sent to prosecutors Yoon Hyun-woo, president of the North Chungcheong Sports Council (charged with violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act), Yoon Doo-young, president of the North Chungcheong Volleyball Association (charged with violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act and offering bribes), and Lee Jae-soo, president of the North Chungcheong Roller Sports Federation (charged with violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act). An interior contractor was also referred on charges of evidence fabrication.
