Police launched an investigation after a post appeared online warning of a "hydrochloric acid attack" targeting a high school in Incheon. Police identified the poster and deployed officers around the school to prepare for any contingency.
According to the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education on the 11th, a 112 call reported at about 10:03 p.m. on the 10th that a post had been uploaded to the internet warning of a hydrochloric acid attack targeting a high school in Incheon.
The post has since been deleted. Police launched a probe to verify the poster and how the post was made.
Police and the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education visited the school at about 6 a.m. that day to check on-site safety conditions. Police are deploying officers around the school and preparing for any contingency.
So far, no unusual signs have been found inside the school, according to reports. Classes are proceeding as normal.
The school sent a notice to parents that day, saying, "A report was filed last night via the internet warning of a hydrochloric acid attack targeting our school, and we are currently verifying the facts with relevant agencies including the police and the education office."
It added, "So far, no particular unusual signs or problem situations have been found inside the school, and classes are proceeding as normal," and explained, "In accordance with the emergency response manual, we are closely cooperating with relevant agencies and taking necessary measures with student safety as the top priority."
Police plan to verify the post's specific content, the poster's identity, and whether there was actual intent to commit the crime.
