Three college students with the Korea University Advancement Association who trespassed into a U.S. Forces Korea base to stage a protest were handed over to prosecutors while under arrest.
Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi said on the 11th that it referred three people, including a member of the Korea University Advancement Association identified as A, to the Pyeongtaek branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors Office under arrest on charges of violating the Protection of Military Bases and Installations Act and jointly trespassing into a building.
A and the others are accused of trespassing into the Osan Air Base (K-55), a U.S. Forces Korea facility in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, through the main gate at about 10:15 a.m. on the 4th.
Inside the base, they shouted slogans such as "Smash the U.S. 7th Air Force that hinders Honam Semiconductors" and filmed the protest scene, was found.
There were eight people who entered the base at the time: four men and four women. The U.S. military apprehended them in the act and turned them over to Korean police.
Police deemed the matter serious for four people, including A, and sought arrest warrants on the 6th. The Pyeongtaek branch of the Suwon District Court issued arrest warrants for three of them.
The Korea University Advancement Association has continued to protest via social media (SNS) on the 7th, the day after the arrest warrants were issued, condemning the decisions by the investigative agency and the judiciary.
