Yongin city said on the 10th that it was selected as an outstanding local government in Gyeonggi province's comprehensive evaluation of "winter natural disasters (heavy snow)." Accordingly, Yongin city will receive a commendation from the Gyeonggi governor and a 3 billion won disaster management fund.
Gyeonggi province is selecting outstanding local governments by comprehensively evaluating the 31 cities and counties in the province on items including: ▲ performance in preemptive preparations for winter natural disasters ▲ operation of the emergency duty system ▲ efforts to prevent casualties ▲ the level of interest from heads of local governments ▲ securing budgets and personnel ▲ best practices.
The evaluation comprehensively reviewed each local government's response capabilities for natural disasters such as heavy snow and cold waves during winter, from Nov. 15 last year to March 15 this year.
Yongin city received high marks in the areas of preemptive prevention and response systems for heavy snow. It established a comprehensive winter natural disaster plan and systematically managed snow removal weak sections and habitual icing sections. It was also recognized for strengthening a prevention-centered safety management system by securing snow removal equipment and materials in advance and building a cooperation system with related agencies.
A Yongin city official said, "This selection as an outstanding local government is the result of doing our best in preemptive preparations and on-site response to winter natural disasters," adding, "We will use the support fund effectively to improve our heavy snow response capability and do our utmost in disaster management so that all citizens can have a safe and warm winter."
