Two workers in their 50s collapsed while working at a Maeil Dairies plant in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, leaving one dead and one injured.
According to the Pyeongtaek Police Station on the 9th, at about 2:58 p.m. that day, two workers, including a worker in his 50s identified as A, were found unconscious at the Maeil Dairies Pyeongtaek plant in Jinwi-myeon, Pyeongtaek.
The two were discovered by a plant employee and taken to a hospital, but A ultimately died. Another worker in his 50s who was found together is believed to have suffered minor injuries. No significant external injuries were found on either of them.
The site of the accident was inside a condensed milk storage tank measuring 3.4 meters high and 1.9 meters in diameter. Police believe they collapsed while cleaning the tank.
Police are checking with plant officials about the work being done at the time, the exact circumstances of the accident, and whether safety rules were followed. They also plan to determine A's exact cause of death through an autopsy.
A police official said, "After wrapping up the preliminary investigation, we plan to transfer the case to the Serious Accident Investigation Team of the Metropolitan Crime Investigation Unit at the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency."
