On Sunday the 9th, the extreme heat wave that sent midday temperatures soaring to around 40 degrees during the week will ease somewhat. However, with daytime highs rising to 34 degrees and tropical nights continuing in most areas nationwide, the heat is expected to persist.
Morning lows nationwide are forecast at 22–26 degrees, with daytime highs at 26–34 degrees.
Rain will continue for a second day along the east coast. Heavy rain is expected mainly in the Gangwon east coast and mountains and the North Gyeongsang east coast and northeastern mountains, with rain also in Busan and Ulsan, the inland areas of South Gyeongsang, and parts of Jeju.
Expected rainfall is 30–80 mm on the central and southern Gangwon east coast and mountains and the North Gyeongsang east coast and northeastern mountains. In places with heavier rain, totals could exceed 100 mm. The northern Gangwon east coast and mountains are expected to receive 20–60 mm.
Busan and Ulsan are expected to receive 20–60 mm, the central and eastern inland areas of South Gyeongsang 5–40 mm. Jeju's mountains and mid-slope areas are forecast for 20–70 mm, and the coast 5–30 mm.
From the afternoon, showers will fall in parts of the central region and inland. Forecasts call for 5–40 mm in the southern inland of Gyeonggi and the southern inland of Gangwon, 5–60 mm in North Chungcheong and the inland areas of Daegu and North Gyeongsang, and 5–40 mm in the inland areas of South Chungcheong.
At sea, caution is advised due to high waves. Nearshore wave heights will be 1.0–3.5 meters in the East Sea, 0.5–2.0 meters in the West Sea, and 0.5–2.5 meters in the South Sea. Offshore, heights are expected to reach up to 5.0 meters in the West Sea, 4.5 meters in the South Sea, and 3.5 meters in the East Sea.
