In Gwangju, South Jeolla Province, a Carnival hit a curb, crossed the centerline, and crashed in succession into three oncoming vehicles. The Carnival driver died and five people were injured.
According to Gwangju Seobu Police Station and others, at about 9:20 a.m. on the 7th, on a four-lane one-way road near Hwajeong Station in Hwajeong-dong, Seo District, Gwangju, a Carnival hit a curb and then crossed the centerline.
The impact sent the Carnival across the centerline and into the opposite lanes. It then collided in turn with three vehicles coming from the opposite direction, including two taxis and another van.
The Carnival driver, a person surnamed A, was taken to a hospital in cardiac arrest but died.
B, in their 30s, who was driving the oncoming van, suffered serious injuries including fractures and was taken to a hospital. Two passengers in that vehicle and two taxi drivers were also injured and are being treated at a hospital.
Police are investigating how the Carnival struck the curb and the exact cause of the crash based on the vehicle's dashboard camera footage and passenger statements.
