According to official statistics from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 43 heat illness cases that occurred in Seoul on the 6th were tallied on the 7th.
It is the second-highest number this summer, following the previous day's 49 cases, which was the highest so far this year.
From May 15 this year, over about three months, the cumulative number of heat illness cases in Seoul totaled 348, including two deaths.
The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heat wave emergency warning for all of Seoul at 11 a.m. on the 4th and lowered it one level to a heat wave warning at 6 p.m. on the 7th.
While maintaining the "alert" level of the heat wave crisis warning, authorities are carrying out support and protection activities for a total of 64,717 citizens vulnerable to extreme heat, including 42,447 seniors living alone, 13,136 outdoor workers, 6,332 people with disabilities or chronic illnesses, 2,048 homeless people, and 754 residents of single-room housing.
In addition, a total of 9,849 facilities are in operation, including climate companion shelters, heat shelters, emergency shelters, mobile worker shelters, and heat mitigation facilities.
