A woman in her 30s who is set to marry early next year reportedly lost 55 million won in wedding funds through stock investments, then took out a loan to make additional investments and lost another 25 million won.
On the 7th, a post by a woman in her 30s, identified as A, who opened up about her investment failure and wedding issues, was uploaded to the marriage life channel on the office worker community Blind.
A said she invested about 55 million won in stocks by combining the money she saved during three years of work with what she received from her parents and lost it all. A said, "For nearly two years I earned 3 million to 5 million won a month and thought I was good at investing, but it turned out I was just lucky," adding, "After cutting losses in a downturn, I tried quick in-and-out trades on skyrocketing stocks with what was left and was eventually liquidated."
To recoup the losses, A even took out a 30 million won loan but lost 25 million won more from it. The money left now is 5 million won. A said the monthly principal and interest to repay is 470,000 won, and the monthly take-home pay is about 3.2 million won.
The boyfriend knows the wedding funds were lost but does not know about the additional loan. A said she brought up breaking up several times out of guilt, but the boyfriend did not accept it.
A said, "I don't know why a perfectly fine boyfriend who works at a large company is dating someone like me," adding, "I feel so sorry to him that I'd rather let him go. If I were alone, I think I could repay it in a year, but I just can't bring myself to bring it up."
Readers who saw the story reacted by saying, "Don't bring up calling off the wedding first; disclose all the debt and let the boyfriend decide," and "Stop investing and pay off the debt first." Some also criticized the investment strategy itself of funneling even loan money into quick trades on skyrocketing stocks.
