The changing of the guard ceremony at Gyeongbok Palace, which was suspended due to extreme heat, will resume.
On the 7th, the Korea Heritage Service Royal Palaces and Tombs Center said, "As the extreme heat emergency warning issued for Seoul was lifted as of 6 p.m., we will run the changing of the guard ceremony as normal starting on the 8th." It comes three days after the event was halted on the 5th due to the ongoing heat wave.
Accordingly, at Heungnyemun Square in Gyeongbok Palace and around Gwanghwamun, reenactments of guards protecting the palace changing shifts will be held again at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The guard inspection ceremony for the troops protecting Gwanghwamun is also scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
However, the "on-duty post" in which the gate guards stand watch in front of Gwanghwamun after the changing of the guard ceremony and the Gwanghwamun guard inspection will not be conducted.
An official at the Royal Palaces and Tombs Center said the event will be operated flexibly depending on weather conditions.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the sweltering heat will continue this weekend but is expected to ease somewhat. On the 8th, morning lows are forecast at 22–27 C, with daytime highs at 26–37 C.
