The Korean Bar Association said on the 7th that, in coordination with the Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC), it blocked access to 31 phishing sites impersonating lawyers.
The Korean Bar Association recently received reports that online sites for fake law offices were created by illegally using the names, photos, and resumes of its member lawyers and were steering people to remote legal consultations via social media (SNS).
The phishers posed as lawyers and caused financial and psychological harm to deceived clients.
The Korean Bar Association compiled websites suspected of impersonation crimes and asked the Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC) to investigate and block them, and the KMCC issued corrective orders and blocked access to 31 of them.
The Korean Bar Association said, "When delegating a case online or seeking legal advice, please verify through the Korean Bar Association's official website whether the lawyer is properly registered."
