The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, which moved to Busan, will build its new government complex on the Phase 1 redevelopment site at North Port in Dong-gu. The government finalized the location after a comprehensive evaluation of site availability, the agglomeration effect with oceans and fisheries-related institutions, and transportation accessibility.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) said on the 6th that it selected the Phase 1 redevelopment site at North Port in Dong-gu, Busan, proposed by the district, as the site for the new government complex.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) accepted proposals for candidate sites for the new government complex from the 29th to the 31st of last month from basic local governments in the Busan area. Four local governments—Gangseo-gu, Nam-gu, Dong-gu, and Jung-gu—took part in the open call.
On the 5th, after hearing presentations from the participating local governments, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) finalized the North Port site in Dong-gu following an evaluation by a site selection committee of 10 people composed of experts in urban planning and transportation, oceans and fisheries organizations, academia, civic groups, and employee representatives.
The Phase 1 redevelopment site at North Port received high marks for its relatively easy site acquisition, high potential for clustering with oceans and fisheries-related institutions, and excellent transportation accessibility.
With the site selection wrapped up, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) plans to finalize the scale of the new complex within the year and proceed with follow-up steps such as design and permits and approvals. The target completion date for the new complex is 2030.
Minister Hwang Jong-woo of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) said, "The key hub site of the southern maritime capital region, which will lead the era of the Northern Sea Route, has been set," adding, "We will push follow-up procedures with a sense of speed so the new complex can be built without a hitch."
