The Korea Football Association was found to have provided sexual entertainment to foreign referees several times 14 to 15 years ago. The improper hospitality took place ahead of national team matches, including World Cup qualifiers.
According to the soccer community on the 6th, a National Assembly member's office confirmed that the association provided sexual entertainment to about 10 international referees in 2011–2012. At three World Cup and Olympic qualifiers and four friendlies held in Korea at the time, about 10 foreign referees and match inspectors were entertained. The matches included the Oman London Olympic qualifier (2011), the Kuwait Brazil World Cup qualifier (2012), and the Qatar London Olympic qualifier (2012).
An association employee was found to have charged from hundreds of thousands of won to more than 1 million won for a single instance of sexual entertainment. This occurred during the tenure of former President Cho Jung-yeon. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism audited the association in 2016 and identified these facts, but they were not made public at the time.
The association said it is difficult to ascertain details because the document retention period has passed. It said it is currently complying with the corporate card system.
