A Japanese woman in her 20s living in Yongsan, Seoul, died by suicide while hosting a live broadcast on social media.
According to Yonhap News on the 5th, at about 5:33 a.m. that day, a report was filed that a Japanese woman in her 20s, identified as A, attempted suicide at an officetel in Hangangno-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
A, an influencer with about 80,000 TikTok followers, reportedly took her own life while doing a live broadcast from the officetel where she lived. The act is believed to have been streamed in real time.
An acquaintance of A said, "A friend attempted suicide on the broadcast," and reported it to police.
Posts asking for police help were also uploaded to X (formerly Twitter) that morning. The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul is investigating the cause of A's death.
