Actor Yoo Yeon-seok paid the full amount of taxes in the 3 billion won range and then filed a tax appeal against the National Tax Service's assessment, but it was not accepted.
According to agency King Kong by Starship on the 5th, the Tax Tribunal dismissed the tax appeal that Yoo Yeon-seok filed last month seeking to cancel the tax assessment in the 3 billion won range.
The matter arose during a tax audit of a one-person corporation operated by Yoo Yeon-seok. Last year, Yoo was notified by the National Tax Service of an additional tax assessment of about 7 billion won, but through a pre-assessment review, part of it was recognized as double taxation, reducing the final tax amount to the 3 billion won range.
After paying the finalized taxes in full, Yoo Yeon-seok filed a tax appeal, saying there was a legal problem with the assessment, but it was not accepted.
The agency said its position is that the matter arose from a difference of opinion over the interpretation and application of the tax law, not tax evasion.
King Kong by Starship said, "This is a matter stemming from differences in views on the interpretation and application of the tax law," and added, "Not all related procedures have been completed at this time."
It continued, "We are closely reviewing the facts and legal issues, and for matters necessary, we will respond faithfully in accordance with procedures set by the relevant laws," adding, "Yoo Yeon-seok has faithfully fulfilled tax obligations so far and will continue to engage in the related procedures with a responsible attitude."
With the tax appeal dismissed, attention is turning to whether Yoo Yeon-seok will pursue additional legal steps such as an administrative lawsuit.
