The seventh Island Day commemorative event will be held on the 6th at the Yeosu World Expo site.
This year's Island Day focuses on delivering relaxation and excitement to people tired of their busy daily lives and instilling pride and vitality in residents who have protected the islands, under the theme "charging romance, island."
At the ceremony on the evening of the 6th, government commendations will be awarded to 10 island residents and public officials who contributed to island development. Singer Ha Hyeon-woo, idol group Liscene, and singer Kim Yong-bin will perform celebratory stages.
At the exhibition hall during the event, which runs through the 9th, visitors can experience a variety of hands-on events. Programs tailored to each generation include the "island drawing contest" and "children's island expedition" for families with children, the "Catch! Teenieping parade," a live broadcast of "Park Myung-soo's Radio Show" (night of the 7th), the "100 islands 100 trails" walking events (Geumo-do on the 7th, Gae-do on the 8th, and Hahwa-do on the 9th), and the "romantic youth concert" (night of the 8th) featuring Lee Chan-won and Ahn Seong-hun, among others.
The "island residents lunch show," the "trot grand match," the "island romantic cruise troupe" that visits residents directly, and the "international island forum" organized by the Korea Island Development Institute (KIDI) will also take place.
The independent film "Pasi (directed by Kang Je-yoon and Choi Hyeon-jeong)," which captures the past glory of islands, will also be screened on the night of the 8th. Actor Ryu Seung-ryong will participate as host and commentator for the film appreciation event.
Vice Minister Kim Min-jae of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said, "Islands are romantic spaces where beautiful nature, unique culture, and people's lives blend together, each holding its own special story," adding, "We will work to make islands destinations everyone wants to visit and places where residents live more comfortably and happily."
