After the fire at the Coupang logistics center in Incheon, more than 300 damage reports filed by residents have been lodged. More than 1,000 calls asking about compensation procedures were also recorded.
According to Seohae District in Incheon on the 4th, Coupang received more than 300 resident damage cases through the Fire Victim Support Center from on the 27th to on the 3rd.
Of the reports filed, about 140 were cases requesting medical expense support for physical symptoms such as headaches and throat pain from smoke inhalation. It was also reported that property damage reports, including vehicle contamination from dust and business disruptions at nearby shops, were included. However, detailed counts by type were not disclosed.
In addition to actual damage reports, more than 1,000 calls asking about compensation and support procedures were received. Coupang plans to guide damage intake and compensation procedures for the next two months through the Fire Victim Support Center set up near the fire scene.
Meanwhile, the resident shelters set up at three schools near the fire scene will end operations at 10 a.m. on the 5th. It will be 17 days since the fire broke out.
Even now, some residents are using the shelters due to the lingering smell of burning and dust in their homes, and as of this day the number of users was counted at about 170.
Seohae District explained that it decided to end operations considering that about two weeks have passed since the fire was extinguished and that the schools used as shelters need to normalize their academic schedules.
Even after the shelters close, residents who find it difficult to return home can use nearby accommodations and claim the expense from Coupang. They will also be guided on options to use a business trip cleaning service provided by Coupang or to hire a cleaning company directly and receive reimbursement for the expense.
Earlier, a fire broke out at the Coupang logistics center in Incheon at 6:54 a.m. on the 18th, and it took 109 hours and about 40 minutes to put out, being completely extinguished on the 22nd.
