The Korean National Police Agency said on the 4th it held the seventh special performance and reward review committee meeting and selected 14 outstanding results. It will pay a total of 117 million won in rewards.
As a representative case, the drug crime investigation team at Ansan Danwon Police Station in southern Gyeonggi (three members including Sergeant Mun Hyeon-ji) will receive 15 million won in special performance rewards.
They arrested 10 foreign members of a drug ring who tried to distribute a large amount of methamphetamine in Korea, detaining seven of them, and requested Interpol red notices for four accomplices overseas. The seized methamphetamine is about 16 kilograms, enough for 530,000 single doses. Its street value is about 12.8 billion won.
To track members who entered with short-term stay status, delivered drugs within a week, and then immediately left the country, the Danwon Station drug crime investigation team analyzed closed-circuit (CC) TV footage for several days and conducted stakeouts, leading to successive arrests of couriers and distributors. Sergeant Mun Hyeon-ji said, "We will continue to actively investigate and pursue international drug rings to the end."
In addition, the following were selected as exemplary cases: ▲ the Jeju Provincial Police Agency violent crime investigation unit, which busted a group that ran a reverse betting investment scam targeting 922 people in Cambodia totaling 29.2 billion won (10 million won reward) ▲ the Violent Crimes Team 1 at Incheon Bupyeong Police Station, which uncovered money laundering worth 747.6 billion won (7 million won) ▲ the Violent Crimes Team 1 at Busan Geumjeong Police Station, which detained a suspect who repeatedly filed malicious complaints against public institution employees (10 million won).
The Korean National Police Agency plans to finalize payment of the rewards after about a week of detailed merit verification.
