The Korean National Police Agency's special investigation team looking into alleged sloppy investigation and collusion in the case of "high school girl killer" Jang Yoon-gi has launched an additional search and seizure of the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station.
The Korean National Police Agency's "special investigation team for fact-finding related to the Jang Yoon-gi case" sent investigators to the women and youth division of the Gwangsan Police Station on the morning of the 3rd to execute a search and seizure warrant. The special team previously carried out two rounds of searches and seizures.
The special team is focusing on whether Superintendent A, the former chief of the criminal division at the Gwangsan Police Station, exerted improper influence during the process in which the murder of a high school girl by Jang Yoon-gi and the sexual assault case involving a female coworker of Southeast Asian nationality working part-time were investigated separately.
Police reapplied for an arrest warrant for Superintendent A, but the court again rejected it. Presiding judge for warrants Jung Gyo-hyung of the Gwangju District Court, after a pre-arrest suspect questioning (substantive review of the warrant) on the 31st of last month for Superintendent A, said there is "room for dispute regarding the alleged crimes even when considering additional evidence secured after the previous dismissal," and found it "difficult at this stage to recognize the necessity and reasonableness of arrest."
