YulChon said on the 3rd that it has hired Cho Gu-rae, former director-general for North American affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as an advisor.
Advisor Cho has worked at the then-Ministry of Foreign Affairs (now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) since 1991 as first secretary to Israel, first secretary to Russia, and head of the North Korea nuclear affairs division 2. He was appointed director-general for North American affairs in 2017 and served as the Republic of Korea ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Tunisia from 2018. He later served as Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination in 2023 and head of the Office of Strategy and Intelligence in 2024.
YulChon plans to address legal, regulatory, and policy issues arising in corporations' U.S. investment processes by bringing on Advisor Cho, as $200 billion in investment in the United States is expected to gain full momentum under the recent U.S.-Korea trade agreement.
YulChon is also pushing to form a "U.S. investment support task force (TF)" covering related matters. Based on his U.S.-related diplomatic experience, including his service as director-general for North American affairs, Advisor Cho will support the TF in establishing investment strategies for corporations targeting the United States and responding to risks.
