Opposing a plan to expand police rotational assignments, members of the National Police Workplace Council (police workplace council), effectively the police union, shaved their heads.
The Joint Struggle Committee for improving police working conditions, including opposition to forced rotational assignments (struggle committee), under the police workplace council, held a kickoff rally in front of the main gate of the Korean National Police Agency on the 3rd and conducted a head-shaving ceremony. About 10 people, including Co-chair Min Gwan-gi, took part in the head shaving.
After allegations of a botched investigation and collusion surfaced in connection with the case of "the high school girl killer" Jang Yun-gi, the Korean National Police Agency prepared measures such as expanding rotational assignments and increasing staff in the internal affairs unit. The police workplace council pushed back, calling it "the epitome of armchair administration," and formed the struggle committee.
On the day, the struggle committee delivered a "letter of protest" to Acting Commissioner Yoo Jae-seong of the Korean National Police Agency. They said, "Far from correcting the leadership's lax oversight, the field feels deep humiliation at the attempt to evade responsibility through the easiest forced transfers."
The struggle committee demanded: ▲ complete abolition of the forced rotational assignment policy ▲ withdrawal of the unilateral plan to increase the internal affairs unit ▲ an official apology from the acting commissioner of the Korean National Police Agency ▲ immediate holding of an official meeting to resolve the situation.
