On Sunday the 2nd, the entire country will be trapped in a scorching heat wave. Daytime highs will climb to as much as 39 degrees, and tropical nights are expected to continue. Suffocating heat is forecast even in central regions such as the Seoul metropolitan area, where both temperature and humidity are high.
In particular, South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang are forecast to exceed 39 degrees. Determining that an extreme heat wave that could threaten human life may strike, a severe heat warning has been issued for these regions. The nationwide daytime high is expected to be 33 to 39 degrees.
The heat did not ease overnight. At 5 a.m., Gangneung was already at 30.8 degrees, Changwon at 29.4, and Daegu and Busan at 29.0 each. Ulsan was 28.3, and Jeju was 27.7.
Seoul and Cheongju were 27.6 degrees each. Incheon was 27.2, Suwon 26.9, Gwangju 26.3, Jeonju 26.4, and Daejeon 26.2, with morning temperatures in most areas exceeding 25 degrees. Chuncheon was 23.8.
The Korea Meteorological Administration warned that with temperatures not dropping at night, the risks of sleep disturbances and heat-related illness could grow. People should drink water frequently and avoid outdoor activities as much as possible in the midday heat.
Fine dust levels will be "good" to "moderate" nationwide as the atmosphere disperses smoothly.
Waves will run 0.5 to 1.0 meters off the east and south coasts and 0.5 meters off the west coast. Offshore wave heights are expected to be 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the East Sea and 0.5 to 1.0 meters in the West Sea and South Sea.
