It was belatedly revealed that police decided not to refer all complaints filed in connection with independent lawmaker Kang Sun-woo's alleged abuse of aides.
Seoul Gangseo Police Station said on the 31st that in April this year it decided not to refer five complaints related to allegations that Rep. Kang abused aides, including violations of the Labor Standards Act, obstruction of business, abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights, and coercion.
Previously, former aides to Rep. Kang claimed that Kang ordered personal tasks such as disposing of household trash and repairing a bidet, ostracized some aides, or pushed them to resign. They also raised suspicions that Kang interfered with the reemployment of aides who had left and implied that if they disclosed related facts externally, they would not be able to work at the National Assembly again.
The civic group Committee for the People's Livelihood filed a complaint with police in July last year over the allegations.
Rep. Kang is on trial in custody on charges of receiving 1 billion won from former Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kim Kyung in return for a nomination in the 2022 local elections. Rep. Kang applied for bail to the court last month.
