Power supply was suddenly cut off around Baengnyeong Island, the northernmost area of the West Sea.
According to Yonhap News on the 31st, at about 1:39 p.m. that day, all electricity at Baengnyeong Hospital under the Incheon Medical Center was cut off at once.
This outage was confirmed to have occurred in various places in Baengnyeong-myeon, including Jinchon-ri, where the hospital is located, and neighboring Namchon-ri.
The Baengnyeong-myeon office told residents via text message, "Power outages are occurring by village due to generator overheating," and "Restoration work is underway at the (Baengnyeong) power plant."
At Baengnyeong Hospital, the grid was reconnected at about 3:52 p.m., 2 hours and 13 minutes after the outage began. During this process, patient care reportedly was not significantly affected.
However, on this day with a heat wave advisory in effect, some residents were still reported to be inconvenienced because they could not use cooling devices such as fans and air conditioners. Baengnyeong Island is currently under a heat wave advisory as of 11 a.m. on the 28th.
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has deployed personnel to the site for emergency restoration work.
