The National Fire Agency National Fire Research Institute said on the 30th it completed a "verification of high-altitude horizontal water discharge performance for high-rise buildings using a heavy-lift drone" at the Taihan Cable & Solution cable tower in Dangjin, South Chungcheong.
The verification was carried out to supplement the access limits of high-cost ladder trucks and to test the field applicability of firefighting technologies using drones during high-rise building fires.
Through the verification, the National Fire Research Institute measured whether a heavy-lift drone, after being connected to a fire pumper and fire hose, could accurately spray water at the fire point of a high-rise building and how much extinguishing water it could supply.
The National Fire Research Institute decided to continue follow-up technology verification based on the technical shortcomings and supplementary items identified this time. Kim Yeon-sang, head of the National Fire Research Institute, said, "We will push in earnest to commercialize high-rise building fire suppression technology so it can be applied immediately at disaster scenes going forward."
