Law firm Jipyong LLC said on the 30th that it launched the "Seonam Region Center" to support advanced industry projects such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI) being promoted in Gwangju, South Jeolla, and North Jeolla.
The Seonam Region Center provides integrated advisory services on the entire business process, from corporations' business planning to site acquisition and development and permits, power and water supply, investment and financing structure design, technology protection and labor and serious industrial accidents, and dispute response.
Jipyong said it established the center in anticipation of growing demand for related laws and policies as, under the "Korea Great Leap Three Mega Projects" released in June, a large-scale semiconductor cluster, AI data centers, and a physical AI industry base are being pursued in the Seonam region.
The government plans to build four memory semiconductor production facilities and create an ecosystem of partner companies and talent through about 800 trillion won in corporate investment in the Seonam region. A plan to build a robot production facility and parts cluster in Saemangeum is also being pursued.
The center will be led by Managing Partner Sa Bong-gwan (Judicial Research and Training Institute Class 23), who served as a presiding judge at the Gwangju District Court and the Seoul Central District Court. The deputy head is lawyer Song Gyeong-hun (Class 42), who served as an advisory attorney to the Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco) and the Korea Energy Agency (KEA) and as a director of the Korean Environmental Law Association.
The Seonam Region Center will be operated by combining the personnel and capabilities of Jipyong's AI-Infra Center, Climate Energy Center, Public Policy Solutions Center, and Jipyong Technology Center.
The AI-Infra Center handles advisory services related to sites and permits, power and water, and construction and finance for semiconductor and AI data centers. The Climate Energy Center supports renewable energy, power grids, RE100, and responses to environmental regulations, and the Public Policy Solutions Center handles legislative and policy monitoring and regulatory response.
The Jipyong Technology Center, jointly established by Jipyong and Jipyong Patent Firm, supports patents and technology evaluation and transaction, technology protection, and dispute response in the semiconductor, AI, data, and electronics fields.
Center head Sa said, "We will systematically support advanced industry projects being promoted in the Seonam region from the early stages by bringing together the capabilities of Jipyong's specialized centers and experts," adding, "We will be a long-term partner so that local companies can achieve new growth opportunities."
