The Korean National Police Agency said on the 30th it will conduct a nationwide crackdown on drunken driving on the 31st to coincide with the summer vacation season. The operation will target Friday night hours just before the weekend, when many vehicles head to vacation spots.
Police said they will deploy 4,225 officers and 1,580 patrol cars, focusing on 733 locations where drunken driving is anticipated, including resort areas and local entertainment districts. In particular, they plan to boost effectiveness by also running mobile checkpoints that relocate without notice at set intervals.
The Korean National Police Agency said, "We ask for active cooperation to eradicate drunken driving, which threatens not only drivers themselves but also others' lives and families."
