Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, said on the 30th that from March to June it identified 1,130 violations and 752 people through a comprehensive survey of illegal facilities around local rivers and valleys.
During the comprehensive survey period, Yongin operated a task force (TF) led by Director General Hwang Jun-gi, the second vice mayor, and inspected illegal occupancy facilities around local rivers and valleys, including Gogi-ri Valley and Muk-ri Valley, with related agencies such as the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, and Gyeonggi Province.
As a result, Cheoin District had the most violations with 820 cases. It was followed by Suji District (235 cases) and Giheung District (75 cases). By type of illegal act, the order was installation of temporary buildings (748 cases), illegal cultivation (150 cases), and installation of platforms and decks (51 cases).
Yongin ordered the restoration to original condition for commercial facilities such as guesthouses and restaurants, and plans to strengthen on-site management to prevent a recurrence of illegal acts around rivers and valleys during the summer peak season.
A Yongin official said, "Rivers and valleys are a public asset that all citizens should be able to enjoy," adding, "Based on the results of the comprehensive survey, we will maintain continuous management and a monitoring system to create pleasant and safe waterfront spaces."
