Police cleared actor Kim Soo-hyun of allegations that he dated a minor.
According to police, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul on the 29th decided not to refer Kim Soo-hyun on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act and false accusation, concluding there was no suspicion.
Earlier, in May last year, the bereaved family of the late Kim Sae-ron filed a police complaint against Kim Soo-hyun on charges including violating the Child Welfare Act, saying the deceased had dated him since she was a minor.
At the time, the family held a press conference and released a lifetime recording the deceased had with an acquaintance. The recording, played with a voice actor, contained content to the effect that "we dated (Kim Soo-hyun and I) since middle school, then went to college and broke up."
In response, Kim Soo-hyun's side countered that the audio file had been manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Kim Soo-hyun acknowledged that he dated Kim Sae-ron but argued that the relationship began after she became an adult. He also filed complaints against the operator of the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute and the bereaved family on charges of defamation for spreading false information.
