Police investigating shoddy work and collusion allegations in the case of "Gwangju, South Jeolla Province high school girl murder suspect" Jang Yun-gi, 23, have reapplied for an arrest warrant for the former head of the criminal division at Gwangsan Police Station.
The Korean National Police Agency "special investigation team for fact-finding in the Jang Yun-gi case" reapplied on the morning of the 28th for a pretrial detention warrant for Inspector A on charges of abuse of power and dereliction of duty.
The team applied for an arrest warrant for Inspector A on the 16th, but the court dismissed it. The court reportedly found it difficult to recognize the need and reasonableness for detention, citing room for dispute over the charges.
After summoning Inspector A as a suspect the previous day, the team determined that detention was necessary and reapplied for a warrant.
The team also plans to question Sergeant B, a member of the investigative team at the time, as a suspect on charges of leaking official secrets. Sergeant B is accused of informing Jang Yun-gi's father, an active-duty police officer, of details related to the investigation while speaking with him by phone multiple times.
