Two participants in the blockade protest at the Jamsil vote-counting center who assaulted a reporter covering the June 3 local elections count avoided detention.
On the 28th, Yang Hwan-seung, the warrant judge in charge at the Seoul Eastern District Court, dismissed arrest warrants at a pretrial suspect interrogation (warrant review) for a woman in her 30s and a man in his 20s accused of injury by assault and special unlawful confinement, saying, "There is no recognized risk of evidence destruction or flight."
They are accused of assaulting a reporter on the 5th of last month in front of the Handball Gymnasium at Olympic Park in Jamsil, Seoul.
Earlier, the JTBC chapter of the Journalists Association of Korea said some participants in the protest that blockaded the Handball Gymnasium, used as a vote-counting center in the election, assaulted one of its reporters who was coming out of the center.
The reporter said the attack occurred while attempting to escape through a window after the entrance was blocked.
In response, the Songpa Police Station applied for arrest warrants for them on the 23rd.
