A middle-aged woman was seen washing herself with soap in broad daylight at Cheonggye Stream in Seoul, stirring controversy.
On the 27th, a video was posted on social media (SNS) under the title "Cheonggye Stream suffering again today."
The video clearly shows a middle-aged woman sitting down by the water at Cheonggye Stream with her legs outstretched, scooping up water with a basin she brought and dousing herself.
The woman was dressed in a one-piece dress, but reportedly had prepared toiletries and soap in advance, lathered her body, and continued actions that looked like scrubbing dead skin. She appeared unfazed by the stares of numerous passersby and citizens at the scene and focused solely on washing in silence.
Internet users who watched the video reacted by saying, "It is absurd to see her bring a bath bag and lather up," and "It is a famous spot in Seoul often visited by foreign tourists, and this makes one frown."
Under Article 11, Paragraph 1 of the current Seoul Metropolitan Government local government ordinance on the use of Cheonggye Stream, bathing activities such as swimming or washing one's body in Cheonggye Stream, or similar behavior, are designated as prohibited acts.
