One of the victims who was seriously injured and receiving hospital treatment after an arson attack at an apartment management office in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, has died.
According to the North Gyeongsang Police on the 24th, a woman in her 50s, identified as A, who was critically injured in the incident the previous day, died at about 11:10 a.m. at the hospital where she had been admitted. Police said they plan to conduct tests and an autopsy on A to determine the exact cause of death.
A went to the management office on the day of the fire to determine why the closed-circuit television (CCTV) was not working and is believed to have been caught in the sudden blaze. Immediately after the incident, A was rushed to a burn specialty hospital in Daegu for intensive treatment, but as the condition rapidly worsened, A was transferred to a hospital in Seoul and was continuing treatment.
With A's death, police changed the charge against the arson suspect, a person surnamed Yoo, 71, from arson of an occupied building resulting in injury to arson of an occupied building resulting in death. Police said they have not yet conducted a face-to-face interview because the suspect is being treated for full-body burns, and plan to monitor the course of treatment, then execute an arrest warrant and investigate the motive and whether the crime was premeditated.
