A reform task force to enhance trust in police investigations (reform TF) will launch to improve the police organization and the overall investigation system.
According to the Korean National Police Agency on the 24th, the reform TF will hold its inaugural meeting at 10 a.m. on the 27th in the conference room of the National Office of Investigation (NOI) at the Korean National Police Agency to discuss its future direction and operations.
Kim Nam-joon, an attorney at the law firm Citizen, will serve as Chairperson of the reform TF. Kim, a former chair of the Judicial Committee of Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun), served as the second-term chair of the Committee on Justice and Prosecution Reform during the Moon Jae-in administration.
External members will include Yoon Dong-ho, a professor in the Department of Law at Kookmin University; Jang Yoon-jung, an attorney at the law firm Jipyung; Jung Young-hoon, an attorney at the law firm Jeongse; and Cho Soon-yeol, president of the Seoul Bar Association (an attorney at the law firm Moonmu), among others.
As controversy erupted over the police's shoddy investigation and alleged collusion surrounding the case of Jang Yoon-gi, the "Gwangju high school girl murder" perpetrator, the police announced a plan to form a reform TF composed of outside experts.
