Choi Si-won, a member of the group Super Junior, publicly supported the sit-in to blockade the Jamsil ballot-counting site in Olympic Park in Songpa District, Seoul.
On the 23rd, Choi shared a protest video posted by a user on social media (SNS) Threads and wrote, "Raising trust in elections is not for one side regardless of the ruling and opposition parties, but for the entirety of South Korea's democracy."
He added, "To increase the public's trust in elections and to ensure that each precious vote is reflected accurately, all election procedures must be managed transparently and thoroughly."
The video attached to the post showed citizens in raincoats holding umbrellas gathered with the Taegeukgi and the Stars and Stripes.
Choi also said of the citizens gathered on-site, "Even in the rainy, inclement weather, those raising their voices on the scene are citizens working to protect South Korea's democracy and the value of each precious vote," adding, "I hope that their sincerity and efforts will not be cut down or lightly disparaged under any circumstances by particular words or frames."
Currently, around Olympic Park, participants protesting the shortage of ballot papers in the June 3 local elections are gathering near the counting site, continuing demonstrations demanding a rerun and hand-counting of same-day votes.
