The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) dismissed an emergency relief application regarding the Paejae High School baseball team, which was disciplined with a ban from national tournaments amid controversy over disparaging the May 18 Democratization Movement.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said on the 24th that it dismissed an emergency relief application filed on the 5th by former Seoul Metropolitan Council member Lee Jong-bae against the Korea Baseball Softball Association (KBSA).
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) determined that emergency relief was unnecessary, taking into account that, at the retrial by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) Sports Fairness Committee on the 20th, the suspension period for the Paejae High School baseball team's participation was reduced from the original six months to one month.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also explained to the former council member that the emergency relief application could meet the requirements for dismissal because it did not specify a victim. Separately from the emergency relief, the NHRC is continuing to investigate the complaint case concerning Paejae High School.
The former council member said, "The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) dragged out the review and then dismissed the emergency relief review after the Paejae High School (disciplinary retrial) decision came out," adding, "It was an intentional dereliction of duty." He also said, "I will file a police complaint against the NHRC on suspicion of dereliction of duty."
