A businessman in his 60s was sent to prosecutors on charges of creating and distributing on social media (SNS) a fake obscene image that superimposed the face of Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Lee Un-ju.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's cyber investigation unit said on the 24th that it referred a man in his 60s, identified only as A, without detention on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes and of insult.
Police said A is accused of editing and uploading to SNS on the 2nd one fake video that causes sexual humiliation and three insulting images targeting the lawmaker. Lee filed a complaint with police against A on the 3rd.
Police are also currently investigating accounts that spread the fake video and other materials A distributed to online communities and SNS. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said, "We will conduct a strict investigation into criminal acts that destroy sexual dignity and human dignity, mainly on online communities and SNS, and will work closely with relevant agencies to actively prevent secondary victimization."
