In an alley of a dwellings neighborhood in Gangseo District, Seoul, a teenage boy attacked a girl of the same age with a weapon, and it was found that swift action by citizens prevented further harm.
According to the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul on the 24th, the incident occurred at about 1:26 p.m. on the 23rd in a villa-dense area in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo District, Seoul. A teenage male, identified as A, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder for wielding a weapon at a teenage female, identified as B, whom he knew.
At the time, A was said to have chased B with a weapon and carried out the attack. B shouted, "Help," and "Please help," and nearby residents who heard this ran to the scene.
According to News1, the first to run over, a person surnamed Kim, 69, rushed out of the house without even putting on shoes. At the scene, B was bleeding and collapsed, struggling with A. Kim said, "To prevent further violence, I pinned the male student's neck with my knee, twisted an arm to subdue him, and then asked residents to call the police."
A young man at the scene also immediately joined in, helping restrain A by grabbing both arms until police arrived, according to reports. Another witness, a woman in her 60s, said, "A person who seemed to be the girl's mother was wailing, and people called 119 and 112."
B, who suffered an abdominal wound, was rushed by paramedics to a nearby hospital and was reportedly conscious during transport. Police are questioning A about the relationship with B, as well as the specific motive and the full circumstances leading up to the crime.
