A methamphetamine inhalation device was found inside the car of a Chinese man in his 40s who grabbed the wheel after drinking and fell asleep, leading to his arrest by police.
Ansan Danwon Police Station in Gyeonggi said on the 23rd that it booked a Chinese national, identified as A, on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act and the Road Traffic Act, among other charges.
A is suspected of driving from Siheung to Danwon District in Ansan at about 3:50 a.m. that day while intoxicated. While drunk driving, A parked on the side of the road and fell asleep.
A passerby then reported to 112 that "a vehicle suspected of drunk driving has stopped," and A was caught by police dispatched to the scene. A's blood alcohol concentration measured at the scene exceeded the license revocation threshold.
While closely inspecting the interior of the vehicle, police found a device used to inhale methamphetamine. A preliminary reagent test detected a positive reaction for methamphetamine in A's system. During the investigation, A admitted to the offense, saying, "I bought methamphetamine a few days ago and used it."
Police plan to review whether to request an arrest warrant for A once the investigation is concluded.
