A man in his 30s from overseas was arrested by police after getting drunk at a restaurant, causing a disturbance, and eventually brandishing a weapon to chase and threaten the owner.
The Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi said on the 23rd it requested an arrest warrant for A, a Chinese national (ethnic Korean from China) in his 30s, on charges of special intimidation, destruction of property, and obstruction of business for causing a disturbance inside a store, threatening people with a dangerous object, disrupting operations, and damaging facilities.
A is suspected of causing a commotion while heavily intoxicated at a restaurant in Gwol-dong, Osan, at about 3:50 p.m. on the 22nd, including throwing chairs and damaging items.
Other customers were in the store eating at the time, but A reportedly kept up the rampage as if they did not matter. When the victim, B, the owner in his 40s, fled outside the shop, A chased him for dozens of seconds with a weapon in hand.
Upon receiving the report, police immediately issued "code zero (CODE 0)," the highest emergency response under the manual, and rushed to the scene to arrest A in the act.
During questioning, A said the motive was that he asked B, whom he had known for some time, to lend him money, and when that was refused, he momentarily lost control and did what he did.
Meanwhile, A was also found to have previously been arrested by judicial authorities about a month ago on suspicion of obstructing the performance of official duties by threatening responding officers with a weapon after causing a drunken disturbance at his residence in downtown Osan following reports from neighbors.
