A middle-aged man who collapsed from cardiac arrest on a subway in the middle of the night survived thanks to the swift response of nurses who happened to be nearby.
According to the Bucheon Fire Station on the 22nd, at about 11:22 p.m. on the 21st, a man in his 50s, identified as A, suddenly could not breathe, lost consciousness, and collapsed to the floor inside a train on the Gyeongin Line (Seoul Subway Line 1) in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province.
When the emergency occurred, Oh Kyung-min, a nurse from Kangbuk Samsung Hospital who was on the same train, stepped in without hesitation. Working with other passengers, Nurse Oh quickly moved A to the platform at Songnae Station.
At that moment, Jo Ye-bon, a nurse from Inha University Hospital who was waiting for a train on the platform, witnessed the scene. As if prearranged, they began cardiopulmonary resuscitation together and continued emergency measures using an automated external defibrillator (AED) installed inside the station.
Thanks to the initial response by the off-duty nurses, A was able to regain spontaneous circulation before 119 paramedics arrived at the scene. Afterward, A was transported by the arriving 119 paramedics to a nearby hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
