Efforts to extinguish remaining embers are continuing for a third day at the Coupang logistics warehouse in Incheon where a major fire broke out.
According to the Incheon Fire Headquarters on the 22nd, firefighters are carrying out final extinguishing operations this morning at Coupang's Logistics Center 32 in Seoknam-dong, Seo District, where the fire occurred.
Fire authorities brought the main blaze under initial control at about 8 p.m. on the 20th, roughly 61 hours after the fire that broke out on the 18th. However, they are taking a cautious approach to declaring full extinguishment.
Fire authorities have not lifted "response level 1," an emergency stage that mobilizes all personnel at the jurisdictional fire station. They have deployed aerial ladder trucks to keep spraying water toward the building's interior, and are also conducting water application in the ramp areas used by large vehicles and cargo trucks.
However, on-site rescue crews have not yet set foot inside the sixth and seventh floors of the warehouse building where the fire began. This is because the interior is still filled with intense heat and thick, acrid smoke.
Fire authorities are aiming to achieve full extinguishment by completely eliminating embers within the day. At the same time, they plan to carefully determine when to send crews into the building. For now, only thin white smoke is lightly rising around the logistics warehouse, and no signs indicating a dangerous resurgence of flames have been detected.
